we made it to San Diego, all is well and now i'm sitting in a Hotel in Carlsbad with all the folks on the RAAM team i'm helping out. about to ride across the country in 5 days starting Saturday at 2:00. While we were in San Diego we checked out the tuesday races at the Velodrome, it was neat. they had some endurance races goin on. today we packed the bikes up and sent them out of a bike shop Velo Cult, www.velocult.com .located in South Park. a bad ass bike shop if your into bikes you should look up those guys, they have all the rad old frames, or at least f-ing sweet ones from vintage to new track to mountain, those guys are great, beer on tap, for the workers at least, if your lucky you could get a glass. or if you rode your bike there anyhow.
well i just might try to upload some things here on this computer because i think it will let me.
cool talk again when i can

We woke up early and got moving, walked down Haight St. to a really old cafe called Pork Store Cafe, that started in the 20's, we ate the usual Gut butter ball grease filling. headed out of SF, up into Daly City then up and down and up and down along the 1 we rode to Half Moon Bay to get some food at the store, sat in the sun and rode none stop for 50 miles in to Santa Cruz, about a 80mile day, got there and sat on the Board walk, rode around looking for a place to get food, ran into a rad Kid named Max, who told us where to eat and invited us to have a beer at a pub where we met his friend Mary, then later we all went over to Mary's house which was a 2 million dollar house up in the hills, crazy nice, old cedar wood house, she owns horses and a nice dog named Bronx, it was a great night sleep, I got to play a really nice Martin Guitar that satisfied my heart.
lovely time in Santa Cruz
We just got invited by some other kids to go out to there ranch on the 1 a little further south so thats what were doing tonight

Ate lunch in Jenner at a nice little cafe Cafe Aquatica . kept on , to more climbs about 20 miles to Tomalos, an hour inland now, "felt like someone was stabbing me in the legs on the climbs with a big pen". Jeremy. rode to Sam p. Taylor state park, met some other guys touring an older man named John from McCaul Idaho he started from Eugene going to San Fran, he was a day away form done, sat by the fire, and listened to another guy who was hiking around the area, he loved talking, and he said he was into cycling "back in the day" and " My legs are so strong that every time I climb a hill on my bike I Brake a derailure" he was a a goofball dude with a huge black tooth in the front of his face. I drew a picture of him that i'll try to get up here. passed out easy after an 85 mile day
Day 13 Mendocino to Gualala
left town about 9:00, nobody in Mendocino takes debit or credit, just so you know. this guy that owned the cafe showed us some new Groovy titanium handle bars he just got, we rode to the end of Mendo to a bike shop called Catch a canoe and bicycles to the guys there let me use the tools i needed to shut my bike up from its bitchy crybaby sounds it was whimpering from the bottom bracket. sweet shop, ran into a 50 year old guy who was touring from Oakland up to Seattle then back down the Continental Divide, really nice man. chatted fro a bit with him, left the shop at about 1:00 rode to Elk where we enjoyed some "gut sludge" rode onto Gualala that borders mendocino county and sonoma county. total of 60 miles for the day tired, tried to find a place to watch the Stanley Cup game but no one watched hockey there. We rode on down to the river and camped , no fire tonight. just sleep.. the ride today was amazing, windy up and down all day it felt like a chunk of Scotland or Ireland. grassy plains on the cliffs of the ocean.
Day 12 Garber ville first early morning
Woke up in the school yard, 8:30 which was a good start for us, as you can see we like our sleepy time. banana yogurt coffee, finally ate the granola that I had been lugging around for a week or so, went to try for a 100 plus day, so we hit the road. 25 miles to Legget where we hooked up with the hwy 1 at legget we were presented with an ass kicking climb session, was not too easy, got to West Port , the ride was awesome with some big climbs and big descents, passed a couple from Victoria BC on the second climb, they were nice, then we ate leftover china woooo and crackers, kicked it at the market for a few hours, saw the people we passed then after them came another two from canada as well, nice folks from those parts. all of them were just heading to San Francisco. pushed a VW bus to get them started, some folks from Portland. hit the road, onto Fort Bragg, legs were getting tired and I was hacking up green shit all day from some hay or grass i think or whatever sorta allergy i formed, its getting better now though, all we could think about was Drinking Beer, it just tastes soooo damn goood. got to Fort Bragg for a total of 70 miles. drank.ate. met some nice women who offered us a place to stay in Mendocino, went to Mendocino, passed out.
thats it.
thats it.
day11 waking up and figuring out that bike shops in Arcata don't help people that ride bikes
Mornin in Arcata, walked down the street and found some sludge at a nice little breakfast place, we randomly ran into lycra boy, then I (sean) needed to use a crank puller to stop my crank from creaking, but went to all 4 bike shops in the town and not one of the shops would let me whip off my crank arms for less then $15, they wanted me to pay them $15 to let me use a tool that would take me ten seconds to use. weeeediculaaasss. went on down the Road to Eureka ate lunch, kept riding at 3:00 2o miles stopped at a small road side truck stop, and the ladies in the stop were really nice and gave us a soda and water, on the house. Rode 45 more miles up some hills to Garberville, ate chinese food and slept at a school. 75 miles for the day.
Day ten..............5-27-09
On the beach , woke up , with ocean view we ate some raspberry filled doughnuts, a kid who was climbing at lost rocks as well came over to us and told us that it was 2:30 pm which we had no idea what time it was, we never doo, so a nice big late start today. I (Sean) fell back asleep, and Jeremy climbed for a little while more then we packed up and walked our bikes down the beach. rode our bikes bare footed to a little camp tore that had a hearty breakfast of lays chips, string cheese, poppy seed muffin, red vines, coke, and coffee. its amazing what you are forced to eat in the strange places of the U.S. 3:45 took off down the coastal road which was a dirt road, with steep grades. It was a late start but we wanted to get to Arcata, Ca. about 50 plus miles away, so we started a bookinit. Rode through huge Red woods in Elk Prairie, as well as big ol Elk. stopped in Orick for some sludge in the guts, (biscuits n gravey with pancakes and coffee). left Orick at 6:45 and made it to Arcata at sunset. stopped and ate a whole pizza, ran into some people we saw at the climbing spot, we got offered to buy Weed twice the first 10 seconds we were there, ( huge weed head town) and also offered an ounce of Weed in trade for our bikes, so we traded our our bikes and now we are stuck in Arcata cause we smoked the potweed, man that would suck if we were that stupid. it was a funny interaction with that kid cause it happend that night then he somhow forgot that we didnt want any weed from him and we saw him in the morning leaving town and he asked us again. POEple are funny here. BIKE SHOPS In Arcata also suck. (in Day 11) . we slept in a courtyard of a church right in town, never got bothered, slept really well.

Day 7 5/24/09
Left Bandon, Or at about 12:30 and made it to Port Orford in just over an hour (25 miles) nice tail wind. Ran into a fellow tourer named Bobby from Seattle. He was leaving the cafe we pulled into to eat. We had some Biscuits and gravy and some pancakes left about an 1:30 minutes later. We caught up to Bobby in about 19 miles and passed him up. Crossed Oregons highest bridge and made what seemed like a never ending climb into Brookings. Had some fries and coney dogs at a tavern and headed out to find camp. It wa sgetting dark and we went down a random dirt road to try to get to the beach and got chased by some pit bull named Burly. His owner was yelling Burly get back he as we high tailed it out of there. Made it to a park on the beach at dark and got down to the beach were a lady came crying up to us asking if we saw her 4 year old son. We asked his name "Hunter" we began looking down the beach for a while in the dark. Thinking he may be in the water was pretty freaky. They finally found him about a mile down the beach the other direction afraid of the waves he kept running that way. We built up an exsisting fort and had a fire then hit the sand.

5-22-09 day 5
We woke up at the farm, lolly gaged around untill 12:30 then headed out for a bigger day then we expected, but as we made it to Florence, Or. we were able to catch a swift tailwind that helped here and there down to Bandon, Or. We stopped in Florence after riding 40 miles nonstop for lunch, then kept it rolling strong at 15 plus miles an hour for 70 miles with a quick stop to stretch and eat a sugary treat to keep the body on track. We made it to Bandon around 8:00 where we found my cousin Adam's house. Ate some Pizza and listened to Adam rock the guitar for a bit, really nice. It is 12:49 am right now and I don't know how I am still awake, bed timewill post again tomorrow, as we are gona hang on the beach and relax in the sand. All and all things are going really great besides a creak in my bottom bracket that I will get to shut up tomorrow, teflon tape does wonders in the threads.

Day three, a ride on hwy 36 to the SInclair abode
Workin on the old Vespa
Hangin out in the barn with Straton
Donkey Donkey Donkey
Benjamers in work mode
Jeremy hittin the jet boost for the end of the day.
Weds 20th-Thurs 21st
I haven't used a computer for a little or had any cellphone service for a little bit so i'll try hard to piece things together. We left Eugene after eating a light brunch at a nice cafe around 1:00 and rode 40 miles then hooked up with Ben and his Family. Hwy 36 is an amazing rode that all cyclists should check out. The Head wind going west was not too bad but still present. When we got to the Farm house, we were handed beers and fed, it was an amazing time, working on an old Vespa with Ben and riding Scott's Honda 80 around, wading in the river, building fires and cooking canned goods in the fire place, while we all passed around a guitar and sang humorous songs. We decided to stay an extra day there and repeat the good times. Chad Alivero rode his moto bike out from Portland, and right as he arrived his clutch cable snapped so we jimmy rigged his cable with nuts and bolts to get him back in action, lucky little bugger, he stayed the night as well, it was great to see his face and get to ponder on the bright sky filled with stars. Great time in the Green Green Hills More photos to come

Day Two, some rain to weigh us down a bit.
May 19th
Woke Up to rain late, went back to sleep, woke up again to more rain, would have been nice to have the tarp we thought we didn't need. Jeremy crawled under a tree, where he had pissed just hours before, then I slithered under the tight picnic table, fell back asleep, we woke up around 11:00 am. With a small break in the clouds, The SUNNNN dried our lives back to normal, once we started riding it started raining again. We stopped in Rainbow for coffee and breakfast, waited for a break in the rain and continued on to Eugene, head wind still constant in our face,15-20 mph with scattered rain squalls. On the out skirts of Eugene, Springfield i guess, we met a crazy man named Mike who told us he would show us the bike path that takes you into downtown Eugene, as he did he also told us his whole life story, and managed to run every red light, take us down a one way the wrong way, and had told us that he hit a little 6 year old girl on the trail the previous day with his handle bar, which wasn't surprising at all. He went on to tell us " I just saw a girl with her dog, and started balling my eyes out before i ran into you guys." then told us that he had just lost his 18 year old daughter somehow. He worked for the Oregon Police Department as an undercover rat, busting drug dealers, whom he used to do business with for his own personal use. He tore off, and we ate pizza and beer. We hit up a coffee shop that locals said was "the best" Cafe Roma, it wasn't too bad. Hooked up with A friend Noah, who let us crash at his house, we walked down the street to a bar called Sam Bonds and enjoyed some tasty roadsoadas and listened to some live blue grass finger pickin. SLEEEEEP Day tooooo ... 60 miles.
Day One, sunny day for a climb
May 18th
12:00 pm
Departed from Bend, Or. after drinking coffee at Thump Coffee. Rode to Sisters where we stopped for a snack at Ray's gettin store. Then battled the head winds up Santiam Pass, which took us an hour to summit. 4817 feet high we took a breather and ate again, some rice mix and other weird energy carb fullfilling goodies, WATER WATER, hot burning sun going up, but the way down was still a head wind so it was nice to have a solid breeze ruslting through the armpits. Down the Mckenzie river to an old contry store service station in Mckenzie Bridge, where we bought two cans of Pork n Beans, Hot dogs, two bannanas, and two 22 oz Beers. Out Front the store we talked with two older local folks who were jabbering about an old lady "She's still alive, I can't belive that!! She must have every single animal there is." they went on to tell us that she was some old hippie witch that had been around way too long, the one guy who looked very weathered kept replying to the tall beer bellied man who drove a chevy luv pick up with an old nonstop barking cowdog sitting shotgun, saying " yea man still alive, still alive, she lives right up there." Pointing off some direction into the trees. We continued on to the Mckenzie Bridge Camp Ground, that was located right on the Mckenzie River, Arriving to camp at 5:00 pm. Built a fire, cooked out gettins, and mellowed out to the sound of the river with a cool buzz off some beer, letting our eyes get heavy we fell asleep next to the fire under the trees. 80 Miles Beautiful.
